METHODOLOGY FOR REPLACEMENT OF BEARING PADS OF BRIDGES

  1. Safety Measures:
To adopt safety measures following steps should be taken while replacing the Bearing pads, under the bridge by placing jacks directly under girder ends on top of transom/abutments to install new Bridge Bearing Pads.

Therefore, we must close the South Bond or North Bond portion once we’ve finished doing it, or light traffic will pass at a speed of 20 km/h.

Therefore replacing bearing pads, the bridge cannot be moved. Recently, some conditions permit slow traffic movement. So, during the lifting, an appropriate diversion can be provided through the use of a person with a flag and safety jacket to direct traffic.

BRIDGE STRUCTURE LIFTING
A lifting frame is generally a design-and-build machine used in segmental bridge construction. It consists of lifting devices and metal structures for lifting bridge segments in position for assembling.

Often, it is advantageous to prefabricate extremely large & heavy parts away from their final destination. They are usually lowered, jacked horizontally, or raised to their final position.

Our company carries a large stock of fully tested hydraulic jacks (hydra-jacks) available for service and sale at competitive rates.

Hydraulic pumps and control systems range from our basic set-ups to the more complicated electronic control and structural monitoring systems used for controlled hydraulic movement.

We can offer a comprehensive service for a wide range of applications from start to finish. Areas where our expertise has been proved invaluable include:

Lifting Heavy Weights

Lifting Bridges for replacing bearing pads
  1. CLEANING THE DABRIS.
The bearing plinth in the area of the transom/abutment will be cleaned and debris removed before replacement.
  1. Preparation and installation of the equipment & accessories.
The bearing pads are replaced after safety measures and debris removal. Our inventory of flats. We can make larger or alternative models. You can inject epoxy resin into the flat jacks for permanent use. It is therefore necessary to have bearing pads in order to facilitate this, and therefore they can be explained in the following manner:

Before Jack used in the projects mentioned earlier are of more than 100Tons capacity and 6” inch height, piston diameter 160mm & stroke is 30mm.

Access ladders and work platforms around transoms where ever necessary, and remove & shift of work platform to the next piers.

Confectioning of all the Hydraulic jacks and gauges.
Frozen or defective bearings can be removed with hydraulic jacks. We are using 12 hydraulic jacks totaling 100 tons. The hydraulic pump will activate the jacks now. Therefore, it is crucial that bridge bearing pads are part of the bridge construction process in order to ensure a long lasting bridge

One hydraulic pump is enough for all hydraulic jacks with the help of various lines. Three-phase generator activates hydraulic pump. Next, touch the rafter beneath all the jacks. If necessary, use small plates to touch the surface.

Lifting of Bridge Spam. After lifting 5-6mm, bearing pads would be free, and all the span load is on the jacks.
Carry out lifting of one end of deck at one time, removal of damaged bearing pads. The top of the grout pedestal, apply thin mortar (if necessary, after using the bearing pad for a long time) Placing/fixing new bearing pads at correct line and level, lowering down the deck on top of new bearing pads, removal & shifting of equipment to next piers till completion of all the works.

It is important to mention that in the case of the new bearing pad.
Remove old bearing pad.
Therefore note the dial gauge reading if required and mark the current pad position one by one and then remove it and replace the new bearing pad in the same position one by one. After successfully replacement, release the pressure of jacks and load is again on the structure. Remove the jacks and repeat the same procedure to the next side of the span if needed.

Install new bearing pad.
